The Mayor Mr. Rangira Bruno of our District, yesterday 18th June, at the Districh Headquarters received the Rusumo Power Company Limited (RPCL)'s Governance, NELSAP Management and staff to discuss completion of projects of the local area development programs. 

The Mayor Mr. Rangira expressed how the District highly appreciate the partnership.

Kirehe District is building a high-standard gymnasium that will mainly serve the surrounding youth communities and will be hosting international competitions in Volleyball, Basketball, football and other sporting activities.

The visitors also visited the gymnasium under construction at Nyakarambi, and houses being constructed at Rusumo Border  for households who were affected by blasting during construction of the Power Plant.

The construction of Rusumo 80MW Regional Power Plant was completed by NELSAP in 2024. The Plant is now operational and increases electricity to the national grids of Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania.

A Local Area Development Plan (LADP) was also offered to districts surrounding Rusumo[our District included] area as a benefit sharing program designed to enhance regional economic and social development in the project area Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.
